A uction D escription Up for your consideration is a very old pair of JB Hirsch Pirate Bookends. This is indeed a fine 1925 pair that depicts the quality, artistry, and craftsmanship of this widely renowned deco foundry. Such pieces continue to grow in their appeal and continue to gain notice and abroad. This particular pair has been well-kept for over 80 years and will continue to grow in value, as these originals are becoming scarcer and harder to acquire. The pirates' bronze gilded bodies are very deep and rich, with common darkening that adds more depth and dimension to what was already present. The pirate is depicted in full length, full-figural form, wearing traditional pirate clothing: a billowing shirt with folded sleeves, large, collared boots, a hefty, buckled belt, and a cap that features a skull and crossbones. He sits slightly stooped over with his eyes gazing into the distance and with his trusty, blunderbuss pistol in hand. His facial features are fine and detailed, from the ears to the nostrils to the strands of the shoulder-length hair style. Keen attention to detail was even paid to the bases of these stately pieces, which can be seen on a number of Hirsch's finer pairs.
