1964 Jennings Continental Nevada Club In the spring of 1964 the Jennings company was hired by the Nevada Club to produce a relatively limited number of modified Jennings machines for their casino's. At the time the Bally Money Honey had started to take over the market, all but making mechanical slot machines obsolete. The Nevada Club had a strong history with Jennings and ordered 460 Continental machines to be made. Those machines would be made using preexisting Chief mechanism's. As was the new style at the time, the machine would open from the front rather than the back. Florescent light blubs would illuminate the lower front panels as well as the top. As mater of economics the cabinet was made of Masonite. The classic chrome plated castings were used with large plastic top sign and award card. In 1964 Jennings only had 23 employees, just a shadow of the greatness and size the company had once been. The Continental, due to short supply and changing trends in the market was not picked up by any other casino's. Only the classic Nevada Club had them and continued to use them for many years. Today this rare model is considered the last of the great mechanical slot machines made. After the Continental, wiring and computer chips replaced the mechanical gears and springs that made these machines great. Luckily these machines do have a wonderful history of being actually used in the Nevada Club casinos in either Reno or Lake Tahoe. The combination of superb classic looks, excellent province and historical importance make these truly one of the classic must have machines in any collection. The relatively uncommon yellow light panels are still in great condition. The original Nevada Club award card and top sign are also in very nice shape. All the glass looks to be great as well. Overall, this machine still has the great flashy casino look and yet still retains the authentic 1960's patina to it. Above is a view of the machine completely opened with the mechanism removed. As mentioned above, this machine was made so the mechanism could be easily removed from the front, making servicing much easer for casino employees. All the original wiring is still present. I did replace the three small florescent light bulbs and some fuses. After doing that, it lights up with all its original glory! It should be noted that this machine does have the hole in the bottom of the cabinet - standard of casino used machines. In addition, you will notice on the lower castings, this jacket is a false front. The window currently has quarters in it, but any image or money could be put t The last few photos above show the mechanism outside the cabinet. It does work great and is very smooth. I have tune and lubricated this machine to insure it proper function. The original Nevada Club reel strips are in excellent condition.T are a few tell tale signs of casino modifications on this mechanism. The most obvious is the nylon payout slide posts. With the large volu...
