Welcome to my summer semi-annual Limoges Porcelain Auctions. I will be listing over 100 items throughout the coming months, so please check back weekly. Rare JPL Limoges France Indian Chief HP Signed Plate Size: Width: 8.5" Condition: Excellent. No Chips, Cracks or Restorations. Marked: JPL France (for Jean Pouyat Limoges France). Artist signature Loretta G Cotter (or Cootter). Age: According to Mary Gaston's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition, the mark dates this piece to Circa 1900 Description: Up for auction is a beautiful and colorful handpainted and artist signed plate with the rare and highly collectible subject matter of the American Indian . The detail is wonderful and the design is Art Deco in style. The Indian Chief is holding a spear and is painted against a background of blooming flowers. The artwork is encircled by a band of Indian symbols. For example, one of these symbols may be referring to man's soul having no end or beginning: A square within a square placed on end symbolizes that something has gone from it. Or this symbol may have been painted to represent : Medicine
