RARE Large Grueby Pottery Vase w/hand tooled leaves Hello bidders. Up for bid today is a fantastic piece and the first piece of Grueby I have come across. This is a great piece with hand tooled leaves surrounding a gorgeous squatty vase. I nearly fell over when I saw this piece. It has the characteristic green matte color. The glaze is very nice and very leathery. I see no glaze pops to distract the great color. This is a substantial piece that measures right at 8" tall and at the fattest is about 7 1/2" by eye sight. The opening is just under 5" across. The leaves each measure about 4" at their widest. All in all a fantastic piece. This just recently came out of a fantastic estate and has not seen the light of day for many years as it was wrapped up and stored in a closet. That probably helped the vase stay in the condition that it is in. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks or repairs. T is some very insignificant crazing on the lower 1/4 of the vase but not noticed until under close inspection. It does not affect the vase at all but I am mentioning this for accuracy. The lips of all the tooled leaves are t and do not have any damage. Just a fantastic piece of Grueby. It is signed on the bottom with the standard Grueby Faience mark. T is also a model number of 144 which I have not been able to run down. T is also an artist's signature on the base but I cannot decipher it, I have taken a picture for the bidders to decide who it is. The glaze on this piece is fantastic and you couldn't ask for anymore in a piece of Grueby. If you are looking for a quality piece of Grueby it is. This would make an excellent addition to anyone's collection and would look great on a Stickley sideboard or the like. This is about the most classic piece of Arts and Crafts pottery that I have seen in quite a while. This is a great piece and if you have any questions about it please feel free to email me.
