In the early 1950s, the Murano glass makers in Venice, Italy, used a process that had been perfected by the Bohemians in the early 1900s to make beautiful art glass for entertainment purposes. Actually they were made and purchased because of the WOW! factor. This set is an example of that wonderful work. It is a Venetian glass tea set by Murano which features flowers, which were made from glass paste, and gold applied over cranberry glass. Everything was further enhanced using enamels. The August 2000 volume of the Journal of Antiques has an article by Susan and Jim Harran titled Art Glass Cups and Saucers, Elusive Works of Art that shows one of these cups and saucers. The value was placed at between $100 and $125. /featuraug.htm If you are an art glass collector, a tea set collector or a Murano glass collector, you will love owing this set! It is extremely RARE to find a Venetian Murano art glass tea set all together and of this size and quality. This set consists of six cups and saucers, a covered teapot, covered sugar bowl and cream jug. All of the pieces are in extremely fine condition. The only flaw I could find is a 1/'4" scratch on the handle of the cream jug w the gold is missing. Please see the last picture. Also, t is a white mark in photo four on the cranberry glass. That appears to be the remnants of a price tag or other sticker that has been partially removed. Shipping is always just the cost of postage and I combine shipments whenever possible.
