Rare Leather bound Carroll Shelby signed Shelby American Automobile Club registry 1 of 150. In 1997 the last Shelby registry was produced. This was a massive effort to create this bible and wealth of knowledge concerning Shelby American cars from the 1960's. Of the few thousand copies made only 150 Leather covered registries were produced in 1997. The original cost in 1997 was $200 each. These had black leather covers, with an embossed SAAC logo on the front and silver letters on the spine.Each copy had a special front page featuring a portrait of Carroll Shelby bynoted automotive artist Lawrence Gardinier II. Prior to printing, 150 blanksheets were given to Carroll Shelby who signed them in a blue pen. When itcame time to print the books the black & white illustration of Shelby was printed onthe signature page, and then it was pasted onto the back side of the frontcover. Only the 150 leather volumes had this signature page. In all otherbooks (approx. 7000 were printed) that page was blank.Because the books came from the printer shrink-wrapped, it was not possibleto open each one to number them . These books were only available to SAAC members, who were able to reserve a copy on a first come/first served basis. This is one of 150.
