In LIMOGES, at the end of the 18th century, the first porcelain items made in France were born. Made of kaolin, water and fire, they were patiently crafted by our artisans. only the most prestigious pieces left our workshops. Since the beginning, the combining of colors, and the quality and richness of these boxes, have built the LIMOGES reputation. The first stage is the manufacturing of the ~Blank~ the white porcelain. Casting, drying, finishing, firing at 1800 F, glazing, firing at 2550 F ...more than 20 different operations are necessary to achieve a ~Blank~. Originally, the hand-painted hinged porcelain boxed were used as snuff-boxes. They are now purchased as collectibles. Because of this, they have become more varied in shape and more detailed in terms of decoration and hinging. To create them, we use the best designers and the most talented model-makers. In our quiet LIMOGES studios, our painters work with skill and patience. They use the same brushes, colors, methods and knowledge that our ancestors did. They fire the colors and golds several times to achieve the beauty of the pieces. The last stage is the metal-hinging, that is made individually around each piece. The name ~ LIMOGES-FRANCE~ on the back-stamp is the guarantee that the ~Blanks~ are made in Limoges. This is only name to attest to the origin and place of manufacture. In addition ~Peint Main~ indicates that the items are handpainted by artisans. The numbers ~000/500~ represent the serial number in a limited edition. And lastly, t is the signature of the artist who exclusively painted the piece. We hope that through this precision collectible, which has been created with our heart and skill, you will feel that you own a little part of LIMOGES-FRANCE. May it bring its beauty into your home for years and years to come.
The above is an excerpt from a brochure defining the fine art of creating Limoges Boxes. This delightful Ladies Boot or shoe has a fabulous design rendered in an antique jewel tone palette. Alternating colors of golden yellow, rust red, and rich cobalt blue interplay nicely, even down to the tiniest detail in the stiching, and even black laces! This is truly the level of detail that these pieces are known for. This piece, perfect with NO CHIPS,CRACKS, or OTHER DEFECTS, is decorated by PV, which is now no longer making boxes. Truly a gift for a collector friend or a treat for yourself!
