This is a most unusual pearlware shell-edge warming dish with an even more unusual mark. It is impressed "Jan Derks Delft." We think Derks was a Dutch importer of British ceramics in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The shell-edge border has a distinctive circle with rays emanating from it that we haven't seen before, except on one other piece with this same mark. The image of the mark was taken without flash, and does not reflect the true color of the pottery. The only damage is a crescent-shaped hairline on the edge, as pictured. The dish measures 10" in diameter and 2" tall. Note the opening in which you pour the hot water, as well as the steam hole and the added piece with a hole in it to hold the cork, probably with a string or thin chain. Circa 1800-20. Please email me with any questions, which I will happily answer. This item is guaranteed to be as represented. Check out my other items !
