Dhofar 1178 (LL4) The photo above shows a beautiful Oman sunset! The above photo shows the some of the very sparse animal life that is seen in the deserts of Oman. Camels are native animals , adn we usually see one or two per day. The above photos show the Dhofar 1178 meteorite in situ. This is the stone as-found. This meteorite was a single stone with some fragments broken off the bottom. It weighed 732 grams in total. It is classified as a chondrite (LL4), shock level 2, weathering level 5. I found this meteorite in Oman on January 17th, 2005 at 5:50 pm while hunting meteorites. The meteorite specimen for sale is the MAIN MASS of this meteorite. This piece weighs 711 grams and is a complete stone and a fragment broken off of the stone. It measures 110 mm by 95 mm by 60 mm. The cracks visible are from weathering, but the stone is actually very solid. It includes a photo print of the above picture of the meteorite on the ground AND the actual cloth field-collection bag used when I found and logged this meteorite in, a very important item. The LL4 meteorites are not common, and this is the largest piece of this meteorite, so this is a very nice specimen, valued at over $1500.00! Not one other piece of this meteorite exists for sale. The only missing piece was the fragment used for the classification purposes. You will own this read more
