Low starting bid and low reserve. for your consideration is an excellent example of the highly-prized Mettlach No. 2136 Anheuser Bush stein. This is not a reproduction. Made in Mettlach Germany for the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company in St. Louis, Missouri. The No. 2136 stein was first produced in 1893 and is sought after as one of the rare occurrences of a commemorative beer stein prior to 1975. It honors Adolphus Busch, founder of the Anheuser-Busch brewing company - largest in the world. The stein has a print-under-glaze line drawing of Mr. Busch on the front. The rest of the stein body has engraved and raised relief decoration showing hops vines, wheat and steins. The piece has a ceramic lid featuring the A & Eagle logo and a detailed pewter eagle thumb-lift. The base of the stein has the Mettlach castle logo and name, the stein number 2136, as well as the numbers 94 and 28 (as seen in photos). The stein dimensions are approximately 8.5" to the top of the thumblift, 5.5" across the width including the handle, just under 3.5" across the mouth of the stein and just over 4" across the base. The stein is in impeccable condition for its age. Please note that t is one hairline crack near the stein handle - just over 1 inch in length - that can be seen inside the stein and also faintly on the outside - shown in listing photos.ABOUT read more
