WWI USN Aviation Uniform Group Fantastic World War I Naval Aviation Uniform Group. Complete group of uniforms to Machinist's Mate (Aviation) 2 nd Class D.B. Horne. Group consists of: dress blue jumper, neckerchief, two undress blue jumpers, two pairs blue trousers, two white hats, blue knit watch cap, blue winter cap, two white jumpers, two pairs of white trousers. Dress blue jumper with white piping, hand embroidered stars on collar, beautiful Aviation Machinist's Mate 2 nd Class rating badge, heavily padded eagle with blue eye, winged propeller rating insignia has thickly padded wings and curved propeller on shield shaped backing cloth sewn on the left arm with "x" blanket stitching. Jumper is made of Melton wool and has neckerchief loop and drawstring at waist and is stenciled "D.B. HORNE" in two locations. Piping somewhat yellowed with age, one pinhead size hole in lower front, not very noticeable and could be easily stitched up. Two canvas white hats , each stenciled twice with "D.B. HORNE." Black silk neckerchief (not stenciled). Dress blue wool trousers with bell bottoms, thirteen button flap front, denim lining; all buttons present although one is cracked in half. Second pair of trousers are nearly identical, one cracked button, one half of which is missing. Stenciled "D.B. HORNE" inside legs. Rare k nit watch cap stenciled "D.B.HORNE." Blue winter " Balaclava" type hat with fold down earflaps, visor and pom-pom on top (possibly a Red Cross hand-made item made for sailors). Undress blue jumper , with neckerchief loop (probably added by sailor), inside hung chest pocket, draw-string waist. made of blue wool serge. Stenciled with owner's name in two places. Second similar jumper , only difference is lack of neckerchief loop. White uniforms are all cotton duck in nice white condition with the occasional mark or stain, probably from service use and are stenciled with owner's name. Jumpers have one outside-sewn chest pocket and neckerchief loop. White trousers have regular button fly with bone buttons, inside front pockets and laced-up back. An unusually complete and early naval aviation uniform group! All uniforms are as found; these have been in my collection for over fifteen years. Aside from the dress jumper, none of the other uniforms seem to have ever had rating badges. Sizes are not marked in the uniforms but they are small to medium size. I am not a dealer, I am selling off my personal collection of high-quality militaria!
