Super Rare and collectable American made Negrus Bros ships taffrail log in excellent condition according to one nautical antiques expert ships logs are highly collectable and the English Thimas Walker variety is most often seen. American made ships logs are much rarer and more sought after. The log head has a 4 5/8"diameter dial and a 5" diameter wheel housing.It comes with a large(14"long X5" diameter(fin-edge to fin edge)) torpedo/fish/spinner .all parts appear to be made out of brass,except the hands,part of the support/mounting post,and the dial which appears to be enamel and perhaps has two hairline cracks in it (difficult to tell for sure through the glass which is perfect).Shaft spins freely and easily A log virtually identical to this one recently sold for $500 in a nautical antique store.
