RARE NIPPON MORIAGE PORTRAIT COVERED URN VASE

GEORGE WASHINGTON BETSY ROSS WITH AMERICAN FLAG

I am pleased to present for auction this VERY RARE Nippon Portrait Covered Urn Vase made in the early 1900s.

Measuring 12" high by 7" wide at it's widest point this fine example of Japanese Decorative Arts Vase with Historical Americana Portrait is exceptional.

Featuring a rich Orange background color the front of the Urn shows a Portrait of George Washington whom commissioned Betsy Ross to make the First American Flag. Betsy Ross is shown at work on the Flag and a resting dog is shown at their feet. The back of the Urn shows another Portrait of a Serene Lake Scene with a Swan at the bank.

A very heavy applied MORIAGE surrounds each Portrait and is very elaborate in detail. Also shown is a heavy enameling in Cobalt, Greens, Yellows, Soft Blues and Whites which has been hand applied in intricate motifs.

The base shows a black hand written NUMBERS and the word MORIAGE along the base edge and stamped in Red the Double "T" and Double Diamond Mark (please see closeup image).

An exceptional example of Nippon wares with a very Rare Historical Portrait. You won't want to hesitate bidding on this very rare piece of Nippon and sure to please not only Collector's of Nippon but also Historial Americana Collector's.

Condition: EXCEPTIONAL!!! Minor crazing on the back of the Urn in the Portrait of the Lake Scene. NO flea bites, chips, cracks or repairs.
