Sadly, Carlie Tarts passed away December 15, 2006. His web site and eulogy are avaialable at This is a rare and unique piece of his North Carolina pottery, an early piece because it is not dated but it signed by Carlie in his recognized signature. The beautiful shape, style, deeply defined swirls and cross marks of this piece are spectacular!! It measures 10 inches tall and approx. 6 inches in diameter, mouth is 3 1/8" in diameter and has a slight knick side of mouth, otherwise excellent condition for its age and distance from North Carolina way up in Minnesota. is some of Carlie's history. After graduating from high school, Carlie Tart moved to Virginia w he joined the army in 1944. He was sent to Camp Croft, S. C. near Spartanburg for Basic Training and then was assigned to the First Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations. During his two and one half years with the First Infantry Division in WWII he was promoted to the rank of T-SGT. Among his decorations are the European Theater of Operations, the European Occupation Ribbon, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Carlie, being an entertainer, performed on stage with Jimmy Dean during one of the USO Shows. After being discharged he also was on the Mike Douglas Show three times and the Phil Donahue Shoe once, and also on the Price is Right. Also
