New York & Cuba Mail Steamship Co. (Ward Line) Pottery Water or Wine Carafe! Amazing! This rare piece measures an impressive 12 +" high and approx. 23" circumference at the widest point. It also weighs almost 5 lbs. and is in excellent condition. I am not certain of its use but have to assume it was a vessel used for some sort of liquid ~ wine or water. This steamship co. was around as early as the 1880's (maybe earlier?) and until at least the 1940's. The Ward Line featured ships comparable to the Titanic in their elegance and design. The carafe is well marked with the brown logo featuring the "W" in the flag. If you collect transportation memorabilia, this would make an excellent addition to your collection!
