Old, Absolutely Authentic and Used

LARGE FIGURAL CLAY POT

from Nigeria, LONGUDA TRIBES AREA.

These rare Clay Pots have been used by the Tribal Longuda Population during certain Fertility and Divination Rites, as a Offering Item to Field Spirits. Either they have been stored beside the house in a Shrine or outside the Village area beside Rock Formations or Trees.

This item is made of burned Local Clay and depicts a standing female Figure with crude Face and Open Mouth, to offer some local beer. The figure shows a typical Hairstyle of this area and is wearing a Neck Adornment.

THIS ITEM IS OUT OF THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF AN AUSTRIAN COUPLE, WHICH HAS TRAVELLED AND LIVED IN THE MOUNTAIN AREA OF CAMEROON BORDERING TO NIGERIA AND IN THE GRASSSLAND AREA. THEY COLLECTED A LOT EVERYDAY ITEMS, RITUAL ITEMS, CURRENCY, JEWELRY AND OTHER ARTEFACTS DURING THE LAST 25 YEARS.

Condition: perfect condition, one ear with repair, good surface patina.

Age: mid 20th centuy up to 1985.
