is a vintage Surveyor Level, or Transit outfit, fresh from an estate that is in really nice original condition. It is very unusual since it was made by Warren - Knight in Philadelphia but the label in the box reads GURLEY model, and the compass in it is signed in script W.& L. E. Gurley, Troy, NY. It is an early looking compass, as shown in the pictures, with a silver face and engraved with a Fleur de Leis for North. Every part of the entire instrument is in very good condition, the lenses look real good, the front has a lens cap - the rear has a sliding cover, and both front and rear rack and pinion focus mechanisms move freely. The three level vials still look great. You can see in the pictures that the original laquer finish has a nice patina and still looks very good, showing only some minor wear. The original fitted box is in very good condition, including the carry strap, and also contains a small screwdriver with a wooden handle - a small metal adjustment rod - a sun shade for the front of the scope - and a plumb bob. The tripod is 59 inches tall, and looks to be original to the instrument, with the same # 3696 on the metal tag as on the box, and is complete with it's wooden thread protector. The instrument alone is 12 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and 10 and 1/2 inches long. The compass face is 4 and 1/2 inches across. In the read more
