Oliver Plow Sign

Nice original Oliver Plow sign which came from a local hardware store that closed after 100+ years in business. Sign reads Oliver Plows and has the big "C" logo with a plow in the center and the letters "hilled" (for Chilled). Sign is made of wood and has scalloped edges. The edges are painted grey and so are the grey in the letters. The rest of the sign you see - the black and the center of the letters - is a granular material. I don't know the correct terminology for that but it is similar to an asphalt shingle. It almost looks like the grey part could have had some reflective properties at some point.

Sign measures 58 1/2 inches long by 7 5/8 inches wide. The sign, for whatever reason, was cut down near the center a long time ago. The man I bought it from did a great job attaching the sign to a piece of 5/8 inch plywood. The plywood piece is smaller than the sign so it cannot be seen from the front. He attached it with staples on the back, so their is no evidence that the sign is on a piece of plywood when viewed from the front. The cut in the letter "E" is the only evidence and that blends in well and is not distracting. The original sign was on a 3/4 inch board and now is just over an inch thick.

This would make a great Christmas present for anyone who collects Oliver Plows or farm implements in general. Signs always seem to make collections complete because they add a great "finishing touch". This one is guaranteed to be an original sign (except the aforementioned plywood) and spent many years tucked away in that old hardware store.
