From my personal vintage jewelry collection: This is a fabulous, very decadent-looking bracelet and brooch marriage in an elaborate design. Although I don't think it to be a matched set, the pieces look just wonderful together, as is evident by the pictures provided. Early pieces, both are signed "Original by Robert" in a familiar cartouche in the shape of an artist's palette on the back of the bracelet's magnificent centerpiece, as well as the back of the brooch. Pieces by this talented designer, who is one of my favorites, are hard to come by and in great demand, especially these early Art Deco pieces. The bracelet's ornate centerpiece is conncected to each end via 3 strands of pale pink baroque faux pearls. The bracelet's centerpiece design, much like the brooch, consists of many sizes of cream-colored and pink faux pearls, and well as clear & dark pink (almost fuchsia) rhinestones, and faceted crystals. These pearls, crystals, and stones are set in intricately filigreed silvertoned metalwork, in a familiar floral design, used by the designer in so much of his work. "Robert" and "Original by Robert" were costume jewelry marks used by the Fashioncraft Jewelry Company (founded by Robert Levey, David Jaffe, and Irving Landsman in 1942). These high-priced, hand-made pieces are often complex, having beads and pearls, rhinestones, enamel, and/or floral designs; they are often similar to some Miriam Haskell pieces. Robert jewelry was used in some Hollywood films, including the 1952 movie "Viva Zapata." Robert pieces were produced until around 1975. In Julia Carroll's "Collecting Costume Jewelry 101", Carroll claims that the value of Original by Robert jewelry is climbing steadily. The trademark "Original by Robert" was first used in 1942, and Robert jewelry was advertised in 1946 as featuring hand-set Czechoslovakian stones and as being a "dramatic modern antique". The bracelet is a magnificent piece which has a massive centerpiece, as well as an ornately jeweled end. The bracelet's clasp/end has a beautiful smaller scale of the centerpiece on one end. Such a rare find....... T appears to be minimal wear to the stones, pearls, and to the metalwork, any of which would be consistent with the estimated age of the set. It really looks marvelous for its age in terms of wear. T appear to be no stones missing, which is amazing in itself. I do see that 1 pearl on the bracelet's centerpiece has lost its lustre, and t is a bit of lovely green patina/verdigris and t, but neither mars the set's overall beauty. All stones appear bright and clear. What little wear t might be certainly does not detract from the beauty of this set. T is so much sparkle and shimmer! The metalwork shows only the minimal expected wear, and is still quite shiny for its age. I believe this old set was well-loved and worn accordingly. I personally love antique jewelry that LOOKS antique... Measuring approx. 7 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide at the centerpiece, the bracelet is a very wearable size and weight. The clasp appears nice and tight, although t is no safety chain. This is truly an outstanding piece of fine vintage costume jewelry. The brooch measures approx. 1 3/4 inches long by 1 5/8 inches wide, and matches the bracelet's design beautifully! This is a fabulous old Robert bracelet/brooch set that I hate parting with! Although familiar to collectors, you don't see this design very often, and you will definitely not be disappointed in it! ***Pictures always make the pieces less brilliant & colorful than they are in real life!*** *All sales final.
