A wonderful scarce one of a kind custom designed signed piece for the PHILIPPE STARCK fan! This 4 legged conference table was custom designed by important 20th century designer Philippe Starck in the 1990s for the board room of a locally based national structural engineering firm. I was lucky enough to acquire the piece when the company relocated to new offices. I have enjoyed this piece and its matching console tables for years but now it is time to pass them on to someone else who will truly love them! This would make a gorgeous dining table!! I know of only two of these tables in existence, both coming from the same office building. The gloss black painted welded steel table top measures exactly 3' wide by 6' long and originally supported a massive inch thick granite slab that was approximately 4'x7'. When the company moved they decided to keep the granite to use for another purpose in their new offices. It would have been an exhorbitant amount of money to ship such a heavy piece of stone anyway, and the lucky winner of this auction can choose whatever material they desire for the top. The top which was hidden by the marble is still the red colored primer and has levelers and glue still attached but this could be cleaned off and painted if the buyer desired a glass top instead of marble. The table stands 29-1/2" tall and has 4 solid angular brushed aluminum legs with black plastic caps on ends each measuring 27-3/4" long. Each leg has the logo "ALEPH" (A Division of Driade, an Italian furniture company) as well as Starck's signature impressed in the metal. The tops of the legs are etched "T-1" for Table 1 and each leg is also inscribed with "L-1", "L-2", "L-3" & "L-4" for Legs 1-4. The legs bolt to the table with black painted aluminum rings between the table top and legs. Condition is very nice! An exceptional piece for the Starck collector or lover of modern design, would look great with Mid-Century Modern or contemporary pieces and is also AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT!!! I have no idea of the value of this piece so am listing at a very reasonable starting bid near what I paid for the piece almost ten years ago! The Solid Steel Top of this table is Extremely heavy (106 lbs by itself) and I do not have the facilities to crate or ship something of this size and weight so the winner of this auction must arrange for local pickup in Kansas City, MO 64101 or contact a freight company such as Craters and Freighters or Plycon Van Lines. I can assist with phone numbers of local freight companies and can store the table for up to 30 days while arrangements for shipping are made! Be sure to check out my other items for the matching console table! Thanks for looking, a brief bio of Starck follows: Philippe Patrick Starck (born January 18, 1949) is a well-known French designer and probably the best known designer in the New Design style. His designs range from spectacular interior designs to mass produced consumer goods such as toothbrushes, chairs, and even houses. He was educated in Paris at Ecole Nissim de Camondo and founded his first design firm in 1968 (the firm specialized in inflatable objects). In 1969, he became art director of his firm along with Pierre Cardin. Starck has worked independently as an interior designer and as a product designer since 1975. Most notably he has created a number of relatively inexpensive product designs for the large American retailer Target Stores. Starck's career started to climb in earnest in 1982 when he designed the interior for the private apartments of the then French President François Mitterrand. After this date more and more works appear on his CV. His most recent occupations include a mouse for Microsoft, yachts and even new packaging for a beer company. He has been commissioned to design the Virgin Galactic "spaceport" in New Mexico . Unlike most other New Design artists, Starck's work does not concentrate on the creation of provocative and expensive single pieces. Instead his product designs are of usable household items who Starck hims...
