This is a two-volume set of books that almost NEVER come to the market. In fact, we purchased this set nearly 20 years ago and it has been the only set we have seen for sale since that acquisition. It is entitled 'Proceedings of the Grand Lodge of Texas.' Normally, we do not acquire Proceedings, but this one as well as the two California proceedings currently listed were acquired for our collection originally because they represented some of the very earliest Masonic history of the United States. This has a wealth of research possibilities. It contains the names of every lodge in Texas in existence during this time as well as the names of officers -- a veritable Who's Who in Texas during the early 19th century. Volume One, dated 1860, covers the history of Texas Freemasonry from 1837 to 1857. Individuals such as Sam Houston, Tyler, Rusk, Cooke, and many others famous in Texas history are mentioned by name. It is fascinating to read about the earliest lodges being established in the new Republic of Texas during the late 1830s. Volume Two, dated 1857, continues the early history of Texas Freemasonry, but the majority of this volume is devoted to the 1850s. Both volumes have a very rare Galveston imprint with the Richardson & Co. publishing firm name listed on the title page. Both measure approximately 7 by 10 inches; volume one has 640 pages and volume two has approximately 660 pages. As can be seen from the photograph below, these are ex-library copies with the typical stamps, etc. found in library copies. However, the bindings remain very tight, t is only a light amount of foxing, the inside pages are clean, and the covers are only lightly to moderately rubbed/bumped. On volume two, t is an approximately 1 1/2 inch tear between the spine at the top of the book and the front cover, but is not noticeable at all when the books are shelved. Regardless of condition, this is a VERY RARE and highly desirable item for both Masonic collectors as well as those who collect early Texas collectibles. We have placed a very modest reserve on this set to protect our investment, but it is set well below the value of these rare books. This is part of a remarkable 20-year plus collection of Masonic and Knights Templar items. We are listing new items almost every week, so check back often. Offered at NO RESERVE!!!
