C. Fields' property for a television spectacular and I have been approached to consider doing it. I am deeply flattered that CBS would consider me [I'd be considered] capable of portraying Fields, one of the greatest comedians of all time." A Skelton/Fields story: During W.C. Fields' "Pool Sharks" sketch in Ziegfeld's Follis of 1914, unknown to the 34-year-old Fields, 27-year-old Ed Wynn hid under the pool table and made faces at the audience. Fields walked around to the front of the table and knocked Wynn unconscious with the blunt end of his twisted pool cue (beginning a widely publicized feud).
