This is one of the BEST and RAREST 18th Century EMBOSSED BRASS COIN HOLDERS. In the shape of a MINIATURE POCKET WATCH CASE. This incredible piece is similar to those carried by Revolutionary War Officer's (Both Sides) during the war. They were made to carry gold coins and the fact that this one was made in the shape of a watch holder shows it was meant to "hide" the true purpose. It is spring loaded, which means that under the coins is a spring which pushes up the coin and you would then slide it out. (The photos show a modern nickel which is similar in size to a $10 Gold coin from the Revoultionary period). This incredible piece is in FANTASTIC CONDITION. THE HINGE IS COMPLETE AND INTACT, THE TOP SPRING PIN IS INTACT AND FULLY FUNCTIONING. The spring inside under the coins is replaced. The original probably was worn out or lost. The spring fed the coins to the top and then they were slid out. This is an incredibly RARE piece of Revolutionary War pieces as well as a great piece of Americana. Very few of these boxes have survived or were even made. To find it in such fantastic condition is quite incredible. The size is wonderful, it is just 1 1/4" across and just 3/8" high .
