is another great post card image from a Highland Avenue home in Fall River . This unused, divided-back, real photo post card shows "Fred Russell's Shop- 302 Central St. F. R. 1916." Russell's barber shop is listed in many city directories around that time. Of particular interest is the smoke shop, set up in the right corner, to sell cigars (boxes can be seen in the glass showcase), tobacco (on back shelves), pipes (on a counter display), cigarettes (on the right) and likely snuff too. Note also the rack on the back wall which held shaving mugs of different customers. In the back room, a corner of a pool or billiard table can also be seen. Quite a place- one could get his haircut, face shaved, buy his favorite smoking tobacco and play billiards for fun or wagering -and do it all in one place. Ah, the good old days! Wonder if you could get a shoe shine t too? This 91 year old survivor has very minor corner wear and a crease extending from the covered barber chair on the left diagonally up to about the doorway to the next room. It appears as a light bend on the back and a surface crack on the front. Overall condition is still very good for a card of this vintage. Email us with any questions.
