Samuel J. Tilden ran against Rutherford B. Hayes in the 1876 United States presidential election which was one of the most disputed and intense presidential elections in American history.

It is a cardboard photo enclosed in a stamped brass shell. It is about 1 1/4" high and about 5/8" wide and printed above his photogaraph is Samuel J. Tilden. The back of the photo you can see an indentation w t probably was a stick-pin.
