This is an estate fresh find and up for auction with NO RESERVE !!! Rare & Early Scottish snuff Mull with fancy sterling silver hinged lid with a jewel in the center. Beautifully designed lid with thistles, leaves and stems, very high end craftsmanship on the lid !!! T is also a Sterling silver shield on the horn and I was informed this is a Sheffield Shield, no engravings. From information I have read on this Mull, I believe it dates from 1780 to 1840. The horn is right at 4 inches long and the sterling lid is 1 3/4 inches across by 1 1/4 inches tall, lid is heavy sterling silver. The lid does not have a makers mark, but I did take this item to a jeweler and he told me that the lid is a high grade sterling and the jewel on top of the lid is some type of precious stone, he did n't know what. The stone is yellow to clear and does have some red specks underneath the stone, the jeweler informed me this is just residue over the years or whatever was used to set the stone has aged, the stone is not hurt he informed me. The horn does not have any worm holes and the sterling lid does not have any dents or repairs, does need to be cleaned though. The hinged lid works excellent, with no repairs and it does shut tightly. This is the nicest Scottish Mull I have seen in along time, you just don't find them with this type of lid. Remember this is a NO RESERVE auction, as all my auctions are, so do n't miss out, High Bidder will own this very rare Scottish Mull !!!
