AUCTION DESCRIPTION

Now this is an extremely deco bookend pair These pieces are surely old, from 1925 or so, and are similar to bookend sets that would have been made by the Hirsch foundry - but these beauties are solid bronze. These wiry haired, long earred, and mischeivous canines have a good amount of detail, as you will see. I have owned them once before, with larger versions of the same dog on similar bases that were triangular in shape. That was an Austrian pair, just as these most likely are - or possibly French.

This pair features two small, inquisitive, solid bronze - yes, bronze - terriers. Original and authentic. Both pieces are just perfect, from the rich veining in the green onyx blocks, to the nicely contrasted, jet black, polished stone bases. T is only very minimal surface wear, mainly on a few edges of the bases, and t are no breaks, cracks, or repairs.

Each deco piece measures 5 ¼" Tall, 2 ¼" Wide, and 3 ¼" Long, and the pair weighs 2 ¾ lbs. Both retain old, black felt bottoms. These rare Austrian, or French, bookends would make a fine addition to any collection!

Take a look at the actual photos below to see what is being offered. These could be ideal for the Collector and Bookend Enthusiast. Please feel free to email with questions, inquiries, or any additional information.
