is an, ORIGINAL stock for the M 1865 First Allin Springfield rifle. Please hit the larger picture link and look closely at the supersized photos. The 5,000 original M1865s were converted from Model 1861 muskets and were the first of the line of trapdoor muskets and rifles produced by Springfield. Very few of these survive today. This stock comes with the original buttplate and screws since these do not always interchange, original trigger guard and screws and lock screw washers. It also has the extractor spring which is in excellent shape and works perfectly. The stock has the cadet use modifications (thinned wrist, rounded contours at lock and shortened to two band) so many of these have but is still solid with only one old repair w a piece was broken out and reglued. The piece is that typical break that runs from behind the lockplate along the grain around to the end of the tang. The wood put back is the original wood. This is under the patina finish and isn't particularly annoying. T is a piece missing in front of the lock which is fairly common with these stocks as the wood was very thin t following the milling for the extractor spring housing. The stock has a 222 cadet rack number on one side of the butt and a smaller 07 on the other. Combine this with the other rare, matching First Allin parts we are offering and you will be well on your way to completing this scarce model for your collection. This is one of several restoration projects I will be offering including a M1866 Second Allin that has been tested, a H&P bolster conversion M1816 and a M1795 contract musket. I've had a lot of fun working on these old muskets over the years but it is time to pass the unfinished projects along to someone else who will enjoy fooling around with them.
