Presented for auction is the RARE *Square & Round* HIGH STANDARD~PEDESTAL CAKE STAND / Plate / Salver from Adams Glass c. 1886...in their pattern known as "Ashman", Cross Roads, and also "Diamond Cross Bar". This DISTINCTIVELY SQUARE SHAPED Early American Pattern Glass beauty stands straight and tall at 7", with a diagonal measurement of 12" (square end to square end), and a diameter of 9 7/8"....and the plate is level. The DIAMOND & BAR pattern is crisply pressed & well-defined, not only on the underside of the plate, but also on the ARCHED PLATFORM BASE. The GLASS is SPARKLING CLEAR & BRIGHT, with no utensil marks on the plate. And the very vulnerable corners of the square shaped plate are PRISTINE...no chipping at all! The lower rim of the rounded plate has a touch of nicking/chipping on each edge; but because they are on the bottom edge, they are not readily seen when the plate is upright (please see pictures). T is a flake on the inside of one of the diamonds on the underside; it's very difficult to spot, found upon very close inspection. T are, of course, the usual old mould markings from the glassmaking process, like bubbles, straw marks, and swirls & striations. All these are characteristic of antique glass and are what give each and every piece their own personality! This piece is EXQUISITE...what a UNIQUE & IMPRESSIVE example of Early American Pattern Glass...one for your collection indeed! Shipping weight 8 lbs. Thank you for visiting my auctions; please email with any questions. And be sure to visit seller's other items for MANY MORE ANTIQUE & VINTAGE TREASURES!
