Stangl Pottery traces back to Fulper Pottery in New Jersey. In 1910, Johann Stangl started working at Fulper. He left to work for Haeger Pottery between 1915 to 1920. He returned to Fulper Pottery in 1920, and became president in 1926. He later changed the company name to Stangl Pottery in 1929. The pottery is known mainly for dinnerware and the line of beautiful bird figurines. Martin Stangl died in 1972 and the pottery was sold to Wheaton Industries. Production continued until 1978, when Pfaltzgraff Pottery purchased the right to the Stangl trademark. With all that said, it is our pleasure to offer one of the rarest pieces that was produced by Stangl. This is the large Walking Pheasant figurine from the company's extensive line of birds that were manufactured mostly during the 1940s. At the height of their productivity at least sixty decorators were employed to hand paint the birds at the plant. T was also decorating that was contracted out and did in private homes. Bird figurines continued to be produced on a limited basis until the 1970s. These wonderful cermaic birds were a product of the inability to access foreign imports due to WWII. This is your opportunity to own one of the most expensive pieces form that production. This bird is the walking pheasant cock. It stands about 7 1/4" tall and is about 15" from beak to tail. The base is 5 1/4" wide and 13 1/4" long. The underside is marked. The debossed markings read: STANGL - USA - 3457. The stamping reads: STANGL POTTERY - MADE IN TRENTON USA - HANDPAINTED BY AL (AL is signed by hand). The brush strokes in this figurine are superb. Beautiful shades of browns and blues. The bird itself is perched on a stump with some leaves. T is a branch that protrudes out from the stump and loops back to rejoin it. The best thing about this figurine is the condition. I can't find a flaw. No cracks, chips, scratches, not even a nick. This was bought at an estate in GA and it is believed that the owner was the only owner that this bird has ever had. Well-taken-care-of. Mint condition, may need a little dusting. This would compliment any collection. This piece has an estimated value from $3000 to $3500 in major recently printed price guides. The last one known to sell was in 2005 by Rago Arts & Auction Center for $2468. 's your chance to own it at a very reasonable reserve price. Bid with confidence. Feel free to email me with any questions. Buyer pays actual shipping costs and insurance through USPS, unless buyer desires shipping services from another company. Buyer can pay through Paypal, money orders, cashiers check, (personal checks must clear). Thank you for your visit and consideration.
