History & Context This world-class well-regarded firm established by William B. Kerr in Newark, New Jersey in 1855. Makers of flat and tableware, gold dresserware and jewelry. Used Fleur-de-lis tradmarks in 1892. Purchased by the Gorham Corporation in 1906 and moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 1927. This belt buckle is truely an American Beauty . In the 17th, 18th & 19th centuries it became more and more usual to collect silver in a private capacity, largely as a private investment. Besides utensils that had been hitherto, such as ladles and strainers, dinner table silver, desktop silver and silver novelity also became more frequent. Sterling reflected cultivated and luxurious taste in wealthy households.
