I love auctions and today YOU have a Unbelievable opportunity to purchase not one, but Two Museum Quality works of art in one item! On auction is a Rare and Superb Japanese 950 Sterling Cigarette Case inset with a Gorgeous, Intricately Carved, Hand Painted, Authentic Ivory Panel depicting a Garden Scene and featuring a variety of beautiful blooming Flowers growing on a hillside, being visited by two Butterflies, along with a Bonzai Tree, Grass and Bamboo sticks. The Ivory carving and hand painting are wonderfully executed by a masterful cratfsman who has also signed this piece in the lower left hand corner of the panel. Delicate ivory carvings of this quality require tremendous skill. This large Sterling case features a beautiful deep-carved scrolling design along the border of the front and back of the case. The back of the case is otherwise plain and ready for your own personal monogram or inscription, if you desire. The case opens with a push-botton clasp that works well. Inside you will find the mark "Made in Japan, Silver, 950", along with the original engraved silver cigarette guard or holder. You can clearly inspect the back of the ivory panel when the case is open, and will easily be able to see the wavy line grain of the ivory. This is how you can tell that this is Genuine Ivory and Not constructed of bone, celluloid or bakelite! The condition of the case is excellent, showing only very light wear from use and no dents or dings. The ivory panel has a Very Slight 1/16th of an inch shift inside the case, which is the way it was made, so that the sterling frame is not "resting" on the ivory panel (this is shown in my photos). The case opens easily and locks closed tightly. The case measures 4 3/8" long by 3 1/4" wide. The inset ivory panel measures 3 5/8" long by 2 1/2" wide. This heavy-gauge sterling case weighs 4.6ozs! I have seen similar cases in fine antique shops w they specialize in Asian art, but they tend to charge you a small fortune. I have placed a low starting price and a modest reserve on this piece, merely to protect my investment. I truly encourage you to bid up to your maximum and you may be the lucky one who wins this treasured item. I accept PayPal only!!! Insurance is required for this item. International Buyers: I will send you a invoice to pay at auction close. Please enjoy the photos. I would enjoy responding to any questions you may have. Good luck!
