RARE AND GORGEOUS STERLING SILVER CHALICE, WITH STERLING SILVER GILT CUP, AND STERLING SILVER GILT PATEN;

IT IS LUXURIOUSLY DECORATED, ON THE FOOT, THE STEM AND THE FALSE CUP, WITH GRAPE VINES, LEAVES, WHEAT, AND REED.

T IS ALSO ON THE FOOT A BIG CROSS WITH AN ANTIQUE CITY (ROME, JERUSALEM?) on the background.

The nod in the middle of the stem is of an unusual design.

The cup is gilt inside and outside.

THE CHALICE IS ENTIRELY STERLING SILVER, FULLY HALLMARKED:

- WITH THE HEAD OF AN OLD BEARDED MAN with number1, WHICH IS THE HALLMARK FOR STERLING SILVER, FIRST QUALITY (950/1000) MADE BETWEEN 1818 AND 1838.

- AND WITH THE HALLMARK OF THE SILVERSMITH, which is regognizable (the first letter is Q then a stem with flower with a star above, and the last letter is unreadable, but a skilled person can find out who that is.).

Iti is in excellent condition for its age, just two minute fissures on two spots on the foot near the stem, really unnoticeable and that do not affect at all the solidity of the chalice ; they date back to the making of the chalice.

No bumps, the gilding is in excellent condition, not worn.

WEIGHT : AN IMPRESSIVE 450 GRAMMS !

THE PATEN IS ALL STERLING SILVER, GILT ON BOTH SIDES; THE BACK IS NICELY DECORATED WITH HAND CHISELLED
