signed Steuben Art Deco c.1934 Pair of Bookends Walter Dorwin Teague & Frederick Carder Consider this very rare handsome Pair of Globe shaped Bookends from the Art Deco mid 1930's the perfect addition to your classics library, something very special for your desk or law office or a perfect gift for the collector. This is an important vintage period pair designed by famed Steuben founder Frederick Carder in collaboration with a pioneer of industrial machine age design--Walter Dorwin Teague* This is a "statement" pair of bookends, each extremely hefty (at over 4lbs per bookend) with the "streamline moderne" simplicity that is a hallmark of that era. This vintage pair is in superb condition with few signs of wear and no chips, cracks or scratches, I see one tiny mark smaller than the tip of a pencil eraser under one globe and several tiny bubbles in the glass, common in handmade glass from this timeframe. It is rare to find a Carder era pair of bookends in this superb condition. Each bookend is approx. 4.5" high by just over 4" in length and 5" deep. Each is signed "steuben" along the front bottom edge. Each bookend will be packed in it's own sturdy box and set into a larger sturdy box for safety, the priority mail shipping charge shown reflects an oversize package, extra sturdy boxes and insurance. I will adjust shipping charge based on your location. The winning bidder will be thrilled with this beautiful pair of bookends. I have set a very fair starting bid for an important early Walter Dorwin Teague design for Steuben that is in superb condition with no hidden reserve. Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. It is the worlds foremost artisan glass house. Steuben glass continues to be hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY. Because it is hand made, each piece is unique. Steuben glass is frequently the United Statesâe(tm) gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben markets no âeoesecondsâe. Items that do not meet their exacting production standards are destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben is a luxury brand and they have no "sales". Please e-mail me if you have any questions and thank you for your interest in this stunning pair of bookends. I have a reputation for selling art glass of the highest quality, 99% of my feedback is based on sales of Steuben Glass. Please bid with confidence. I pay Ebay extra so that you can enlarge the photos. Please do so and take a closer look. Also, please check out my other Steuben items on Ebay . Thank you again for your interest in these bookends (these are Steuben style #7641 and appear on page 355 of the MJ Madigan Steuben reference book 2003 edition.) *Walter Dorwin Teague (1883-1960) considered one of the earliest Industrial Designers opened an ID office in the mid 1920's and consulted on design for numerous corporations, creating the "Brownie" camera for Kodak, the "Peace Piano" for Steinway (on view at the Smithsonian), the white tile clad exterior for Texaco Stations, designs for Steuben, such as these bookends, designs for the 1939 World's Fair, interiors of planes for Boeing and many other commissions.
