Very Unique, Hopefully, Very Rare Stoneware, Cat Shaped, Cream or Milk Pitcher, 10" Tall with Albany Slip Glaze For auction is this great cream or milk pitcher made in the shape of a cat. Grab the "cats tail" handle and pour the milk out of its mouth. The bulbus body is hand thrown. The head is slip cast and hand seamed to the body. The cat tail handle is also applied. This piece appears to have quite a bit of age due to the soil in the area of the handle and the recesses on the head, the soil on the base and the "wear through" to the glaze on the rim of the base.T is some damage which has been carefully repaired, which makes me think this was someones valued possession. The repairs are to both ears; about a half inch of the right ear was broken off and reglued and a quarter to half an inch chip repair to the left ear. Aside from a glaze pop on the nose and a couple on the body and a small chipon the base rim this is in good condition. I hope the photos will show the detail on what I think is a great piece.
