Pair of Yellow Ware Folk Art Lion Window Stops Ready to enhance your collection is this wonderfully rare pair of Resting Lion Window Stops in Yellow Ware. These window rests were used around 1810-1830 to hold windows open. The flat back has a little molded tread on it w the window rested. Few have survived the slamming down of the window and the falling on the floor or out the window when the window was raised. These pieces are discussed in Lisa McAllister's Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware , p. 17. These lions look like they came out of the Wizard of Oz! Very much Folk Art. They each m easure 5" tall, 4 1/2" long, and 4" wide. Both Lions are in Very Good Condition. The lion on the left has a 3/8" chip on the top of the platform on the left side. Seven minor flakes from pinhead-size to 3/16" (two on the platform, 2 on the left side bottom trim, 2 on the back in the main and 1 on the bottom). The lion on the right has a 3/16" chip on his right cheek and eight minor flakes from pinhead-size to 3/16" (5 on the front, 1 on the right side, and 2 on the back). Some chips inside the back out of site as shown. Some wear to the glaze on the front highlights of both. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or repairs on either lion.
