I am offering for bid this rare piece of American memorabilia not often seen now days except at auction. Originally, the vial held the perfume "Sortilege from LE GALION exclusive to the New York Stork Club during 1930s. The painted wood stork is in wonderful condition. T is no fading of the lettering on the base or the handpainted facial features of the bird and the original glossy paint is in perfect condition: no chips bumps or even wear marks. I inspected the piece with a hand lens and could find no repairs. The vial is original with no cracks or chips. The inside of the vial shows w liquid sat but is otherwise empty. I did not remove the residue as I think it adds something to the overall character of the piece. Originally the vial was capped with a round gold colored cap but that was not with the piece when I bought it. I would refer you to the Rago Arts and Auction House that sold a stork with the original box in 2005. Because of its pristine condition I would think that it has been in storage for some time. Sherman Billingsley and three partners who turned out to be gangsters founded the Stork Club during Prohibition. Although "Prohibition meant that nothing was prohibited," business languished until premier chronicler of posh doings Walter Winchell dubbed it "New York's New Yorkiest place."
