is a remarkable specimen of original antique Majolica. This is a very special and unique item from Portugal. It is a beautifully articulated, 3 dimensional, ceramic crab tureen. The colors are extraordinary and the craftsmanship is amazing. The details of the anatomy are truly impeccable. The lid for the bowl is the top of the shell of the crab. The crab measures approximately 9 inches in diameter and it is about 3 inches tall at it's highest point. Based on other similar majolica forms, I suspect this crab to be from the late 1800's or early 1900's.
The crab has markings on the bottom that reads "873 C" and t is a smaller number 5 inside of a circle below the other numbers. Please note, I am selling 3 of these tureens separately at the same time. If you would like to have more than one, please bid on the other auctions. All 3 of these pieces are in exquisite condition - t are no chips or cracks on any of them. T is a tiny bit of faint crazing of the glaze on the inside (the white part) of the bowl on all 3, but other than that, these are absolutely mint. This is a truly rare example of majolica, and you won't find anything like this out t!
