Rare Tapio Wirkkala Tunturi Art Object, Iittala, Finland, 1951 DESCRIPTION Rare Tapio Wirkkala Tunturi Art Object, Iittala, Finland, 1951 Tapio Wirkkala's rarely seen Tunturi (The Field) art object is the grand result of inspiration and craftsmanship. Informed by the Finnish wilderness and crafted of cast crystal, it reveals a purity of nature in its simplicity and absolute patience in technique. Wirkkala (1915-1985) was Finland's design ambassador to the rest of the world for most of the post-war era. The Tunturi art object was singled out at the Milan Triennale of 1951. This example is in excellent condition with no surface issues and only minor scuffng to the base. It is the middle size of the series at 12 cm diameter. Fully signed. The Iittala model number is 3405/3805.
