I am offering for your bid and consideration a rare almanac. This was found with a rare 1861 map of Texas by Richardson and Charles Desilver inside of it. The map is being offered at this time in another one of my auctions. You may want to take a look at it too. This Almanac and map were purchased at an estate auction. The TEXAS ALMANAC for 1857 with Statistics, Historical and Biographical Sketches, etc relating to Texas is signed in ink by what appears to be the signature of I. F. McDonald, Owensville, Tx. At the bottom of the first page you can read: GALVESTON: Prepared, Printed and Published by Richardson & Co. at the News Office..... 1856. The book is showing its age of 151 years with rub marks on the covers, yellowed pages, stained pages and bent corners. The leather spine / binding is in very good condition. T are over 600 pages in the almanac. Some of the other pictures that I am showing include: Population figures, an entry related to the purchase of the Alamo monument, a December Calendar, a partial list of Practicing Attorneys, a few facts about Indian reservations and some U.S. Statistics, History of Texas, Railroads, Churches and on and on... T are some pages in the almanac that refer to what to do if you find a runaway slave, etc.. The book measures 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" by 1 1/4" thick.Other items of interest in the book include: A census of negroes, cattle and horses; a description of each county in Texas; progress of all railroads in Texas; a list of all men in the Texas Army involved in the Battle of San Jacinto; a description of the Texas Revolution; a story of Sam Houston; a story of Santa Anna and an account of the capture of Santa Anna, plus many more...The reserve on this auction is related to the rarity of the almanac. This almanac and map that is also offered in another auction can be shipped together. Insurance will be required and that amount will be determined at the end of the auction!
