Superb TEXAS CONFEDERATE with Large BOWIE KNIFE and Single shot PISTOL. Young man wearing a hat with a great and showy non-military belt and buckle, typical of Confederates. The Single-shot pistol which is percussion cap, and sheathed Bowie Knife also very typical of a Confederate soldiers. It is hard to tell the color of his shirt but it is not dark blue. T is little doubt that this is from a Local estate, the tintype is behind original glass and seals and could use a cleaning to bring out some clarity. One VERY interesting thing to note is that the gilded frame mat is a Civil War type with crossed flags and Eagles, that has been sealed upside down. This is important to note as I believe it was done on purpose, one of the icons on the mat is like a Federal Shield, and putting it upside down makes a lot of sense if you have handled any Confederate modified items that were made for Unioin troops. An example of this would be the Bowie knives that had "Liberty" and "Union" on the crossguards and then had the Union side removed or scratched off. Large style format - inside of case measures 2.75 inches wide by 3.25 inches tall. Case slightly larger 3 by 3.5 inches. I bought this from an Antique Mall in Ft. Worth, Texas from a dealer with items from local estates, I have included a photo of the reciept. VERY RARE NO RESERVE Shipping read more
