United States Lighthouse Service Clock An antique Chelsea Clock Company martime clock purchased by the United States Lighthouse Service between 1930 and 1934. A rare opportunty to own a piece of American martime history. Both the case and the clock have the same serial number 198604. It is rare to find a lighthouse service clock w the case serial number matches the clock serial number. This is because the Lighthouse Service repaired its own clocks. When a clock came in for repair, the case was removed and put in a pile with other cases. When the clock was repaired the repairman picked up the first case he came to. Tfore, most lighthouse clocks have different case serial numbers than clock serial numbers. The clock was cleaned by a martime clock expert in 2001. It is in excellent condition, keeps perfect time and has all original parts. It comes with the clock key and the clock stand. Lighthouses needed to keep accurate time to calibrate the rotation of the light. Every lighthouse was assigned a Chelsea clock. It was the keeper's duty to keep the clock running and to use the clock to calibrate the light. The clock has an eight day spring so that it could be wound once a week. These clocks are rare and do not come on the market very often. When they do come on the market they are bought quickly by antique dealers and muesums for their own private collection. I have owned this clock for the last ten years as part of my Lighthouse Service Antiques colllction. But it is time to move on, so I am selling it.
