RARE UNUSUAL ANTIQUE BALUCH 3X3 SQUARE RUG NATURAL DYES

UNUSUAL ANTIQUE BALUCH SQUARE RUG (Ru-Korsi?), Persian Khurasan or West Afghanistan, end of the 19th century, and quite collectible. The exact size is: 3'-3" x 3'-5" (99 x 104 cm). I have never seen a square Baluch weaving like the present specimen. It is not a "soffreh", but it could very well have been woven as a "ru-khorsi" (stove cover). This weaving has all 100% natural dyes and is woven on cotton warps and wefts indicating more of a village setting rather than a nomadic weaving. It is asymmetrically knotted, open to the left. The side cords are wrapped in thick horse-tail or goat-hair. Both endings have a stop-stitch to prevent loss of knots. The black/brown dye lot is heavily oxidized and t are some minor wear areas and lower pile condition to the field, but, all-in-all, it comes in good collectable condition. It is interesting to see one tree-of-life motif being used as the central panel design and the borders having another tree-of-life element with animal-head finials.
