RARE VASE SIGNED LIBBEY ELLSMERE ABP CUT GLASS NR WOW! GLASS CUTTER: The Libbey Glass Company of Toledo, Ohio SIGNATURE: It is signed on the bottom outside edge. This mark with the split between the sword and the Y was used first in 1896 until as late as 1906. PATTERN NAME AND REFERENCE: I guess technically this is a variation of Libbey's Ellsmere pattern. I myself prefer this version that also uses hobstars as compared to the ones that are shown in the small ACGA Libbey catalog reprints from the very early 1900's that do not. As a variation reference I have included the picture of a bowl from page 31 of Pearson's Volume #3 that has the same cutting components as my vase. Pearson rates this pattern 1-2. The 1 designates that it is in the rarest or highest category possible and the 2 for being one of the most desirable in quality and price. AGE: This piece was surely made sometime close to the year 1900. BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Confirms American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916) MEASUREMENTS: 9-3/4" tall, 5-1/16" wide on top, 5" wide near the bottom, and 1/2" thick.
