I have read and done extensive research on 18th century jewelry. Large diamonds, table cut and old mine cuts, a weighty and magnificent sculptural silver work setting, the ever-popular flower motif, used throughout most of the 18th century, with a surface encrusted with diamonds. A champagne diamond adorns the center - made even more bronze by the foiling beneath. On its side, five petals are simply dazzling with its array of shapes, sizes and sheer number of diamonds. Every conceivable shape is set into cut down settings and foiled. All diamonds are either the early form of table cut diamond, rose cuts or old mine and almost cushion cut brilliant diamonds. Gem sizes range from center at 1.75 carats to smallest at .03 carats or less. The total estimated diamond weight is more than 3 carats. Please note all weights are estimated since the diamonds are set closed back and depth cannot be measured. T are 19 diamonds in all and 4 rubies. To see the way these diamonds catch your eye at every angle is breath taking, with leafs made of rose gold, the flower that sits in the middle with a diamond in every pedal I believe to be platinum or white gold, I have tested it on a stone and it does not show any sign of being silver, it has to be white gold or platinum, and this was typical then. The most interesting part of this rare piece is that it is signed on the back and dated, I have looked and read and done more research on this then I have on any jewelry I have ever come across and I have yet to find his name or anything about him, the back reads 1859 K Mik. Either a 4 or a y I can't quite make it out and is followed by Mox (or t)o. So if he made this for someone or he signed it himself Is still a mystery to me and many others, I have taken it to jewelers and yet to find one that will touch it, they say something like this is out of expertise. I have held on to this piece for over 8 years after allowing a friend of mine to take it on road show, I have just got the guts to sell it, this is not going to be easy to do either and whom ever gets this will know just what I mean. Measures 2 ½ inches across and 1 5/8 inches deep.Condition: Very good with silver reinforcement to one petal on back and some silver solder reinforcement to center back of the flower. Later addition, pin and safety clasp. Originally was likely sewn to spectacular gown. All diamonds appear original. Dated 1859 and signed etched, engraved. This is a rare piece and would make a completion to any collector of Victorian jewelry. Please e-mail with any questions.
