This wonderful old Fireman's badge comes from Sodus, NY, and I believe is from the early 1900's. The gentleman who wore this badge had a daughter that was born in 1904. So, he was born in the 1870's or 80's. Celluloid was invented in the 1870's and the first celluloid buttons and badges first appeared in the election of 1896. This three part badge is linked together by a brass chain and measures 4" from top to bottom and 2 1/4" wide at the top. The picture of the firefighter in the bottom section is magnificent. On the back it reads "Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, N.J. and Pat. Appld. For" in the top and bottom sections. T is a pin-back on the top section. The Sodus Fire Dept. is and always has been strictly a volunteer organization and is still going strong in Sodus, NY. This is a great piece of Firefighting memorabilia! Thanks for looking and good luck.
