Offered for sale is a rare & fabulous set of bronze Deagan Tubular Altar Chimes **** This beautiful set of bronze chimes comes with two mallets and was made by the J. C. Deagan Company of Chicago, Illinois. I believe these chimes to have been made sometime in 1916 or 1917, based upon the Serial and Catalogue Numbers. These chimes are in terrific condition and the sound is splendid. Adding to the beauty of this piece are four bronze plates that have the music score for the Communion, Consecration, Benediction and Offeratory portions of the Mass. T is a small wedge of veneer missing the lower right corner of the plaque, which can be seen on the first photograph included The bronze has not been polished, as I happen to love that patina. However, the purchaser could surely polish this if that is the look desired. The only other issues of which I am aware are: the tips of the handles of both mallets have been broken off, years ago, which can be seen in one of the photographs, and the fabric on a part of one side of one mallet has been worn off, exposing the yarn padding underneath. These chimes look terrific hanging on a wall, and always elicit interest from guests. Most simply cannot resist the urge to pick up a mallot and tap out a tune. Aside from that, they are beautifully made and would grace any home. If you would like any read more
