Very Rare Vintage Handcrafted Solid Glass Horse Sculpture by Edward Robbins
Offered is this hand-made, solid glass figurine of a running horse which was purchased directly from the artist's studio, located in a gallery in Stratford, Ontario, Canada in the late 1960's. Dimensions: approx. 7" wide by 5.5" high. This small glass horse is lovely, and we hope someone will cherish it and keep it safe into the future. T is some care required to prevent internal stresses from building within the solid glass structure, but the instructions are simple enough, and will gladly be provided to the new owner. We were told by the gallery owner that Edward Robbins, the artist, was the last of his kind of glass-sculptor. He worked with large diameter glass rods which he formed and worked without any blowing; he was an amazing artist. We do remember seeing one of his very large works displayed ... containing four standing, winged horses radiating from a central base. Robbins also specialized in glass unicorns. We visited his studio two more times in later years and found that he had passed away when we visited the last time in the early 70's. What we know about the artist... According to a tag that was attached to the horse when we purchased it, Edward Robbins was born Nov. 1916 in England, and as a young man he was formerly a glass blower in various aspects of the industry. After 6 year's service in the war, he returned disabled and was obliged to discontinue blowing. He joined Giovani Pirelli ;, whose solid figurines sold in many countries around the world. Working on this technique for 20 years, Robbins was able to produce some of the largest detailed bench models in existence. Poor health obliged him to cease glass work t in 1966, but in '68, he emmigrated to Ontario w he resumed his craft on a limited basis in Stratford.
