For your consideration, I am offering this vintage hotel room key and tag from the Hotel Statler in Detroit, Mich.

This hotel was built on Washington Ave., across from Grand Circus Park between the Hotel Tuller and David Whitney building by famed hotelier E. M. Statler. It was designed by George B. Post and Louis Rorimer in the Georgian architectural / English revival style. It was completed in 1915. It was home to many famous guests including Harry Houdini who stayed t after his last performance at the Garrick Theater. Hilton Hotels purchased the Statler in 1954 and began modernization in the 1960's. Hilton stopped management of the hotel in 1974 and it was renamed the Detroit Heritage Hotel and later abandoned in 1975. After many failed attempts by local preservationists, it fell to its' ultimate demise in August, 2005.

This skeleton key stands approximately 3" tall and the tag is approximately 2 1/2" tall. They show minor wear consistent with age and use.

It also has what looks to be the maker of the key along the top of the number, it looks as if it says: Russel and Erwin Co., New Britain, Conn.
