Up for auction is a rare hand blown footed vase from the studios of Galliano Ferro. This beautiful vase stands 6" tall. It's done in a combination of greens and cream in a marbled pattern over a layer of clear glass, cased in a final layer of clear glass. It stands on an applied blown base in the same pattern and colors with an unpolished pontil. T is one tiny area between the labels and the bottom of the base that looks like w a surface bubble may have "popped." It's so small that I couldn't catch it in a photo. I don't consider it a defect but want to mention it for accuracy's sake. This vase bears two Murano labels: First, the gold label with Roman head and G and F on either side, the official label of the renowned Galliano Ferro company; and second, the silver label with a blue starfish and the word "Murano," the export label used by the company. A little background on the Galliano Ferro company. Galliano Ferro was one of the founders, in 1932, of the A.V.E.M. glass factory on the island of Murano. He left in 1955 to form his own company, and his son Giorgio became artistic director. Giorgio Ferro has owned the company since 1972.
